At Maluti Muti, our roots are deeply anchored in the Maluti Mountains of the Eastern Free State — in Bethlehem, a place where cannabis is more than just a plant. But this year, we embarked on a journey that immersed us in cannabis tourism in California and Nevada, exploring how the plant connects people and communities across continents.
But we’re also outward-looking — committed to learning from the global cannabis community as we carve out South Africa’s unique space in the world of cannabis wellness.

Earlier this year, our founder embarked on a deeply personal and emotional journey to the United States — a trip driven by love, friendship, and the fragility of life. The mission: to spend meaningful time with a lifelong friend facing a terminal illness.
Amid this bittersweet visit, a new layer of discovery unfolded — the chance to explore how legalized cannabis in the U.S. is integrated into everyday life as a tool for healing, comfort, and connection. All the while, every dispensary visit and conversation became a small tribute — a way of honouring the friend whose journey gave rise to this one.
From the vineyards of Napa to the neon glow of Reno, this was more than a business trip. It was a pilgrimage of purpose, filled with reflection, inspiration, and a reaffirmation of the power of cannabis — across continents, cultures, and communities.
A Boutique Sanctuary in Napa Valley: The Herbivore
In Napa, better known for its fine wines, we discovered Herbivore — a boutique dispensary that beautifully blends elegance with education. Nestled discreetly behind a subtle exterior lies an oasis of curated cannabis offerings.

The moment you step inside, you’re welcomed like family. The space whispers tranquility, with artful design and attentive service that reflects the region’s ethos of craft and care.

Visitors explore everything from infused beverages to gourmet edibles, all presented with sophistication and knowledge. Rated the #1 dispensary in Napa, The Herbivore redefines what a dispensary can be — a haven for wellness, learning, and community connection.
Cannabis Tourism in Nevada: The Dispensary & Jade Cannabis Co.
From California’s calm vineyards to Nevada’s dynamic urban energy, the journey continued — leading us to The Dispensary, a Nevada-born cannabis retailer rooted in three pillars: top-quality, lab-tested products, exceptional service, and safety through education.

Across their six modern stores, the experience was consistently warm, informative, and dignified. This isn’t just retail; it’s a wellness platform where cannabis is treated with the care and professionalism it deserves. We saw firsthand how education and empathy go hand-in-hand with customer experience.
Then came Jade Cannabis Co. in Reno — a vibrant, award-winning dispensary that has become a beacon in the state’s cannabis landscape. Recognized as Reno’s Best Dispensary with the Best Budtenders for three years running, Jade offers more than just product. It’s an experience.

From premium flower and pre-rolls to edibles and topicals, Jade is all about access, quality, and breaking down stigma. Every touchpoint — from layout to staff interaction — reaffirmed something vital: that cannabis, when done with intention, uplifts people, empowers communities, and inspires change.
With Jade Cannabis Co. and The Dispensary leading the way, cannabis tourism in Nevada is evolving into something intentional and community-focused.
Shared Values Across Oceans
What struck us most wasn’t the technology, packaging, or policy frameworks — it was the alignment of values.
Despite being worlds apart, Maluti Muti, The Herbivore, The Dispensary, and Jade Cannabis Co. all believe in:
Cannabis as a bridge between tradition and innovation
Educating and empowering customers and communities
Offering clean, safe, lab-tested products
Creating inclusive spaces where wellness and healing come first
Cannabis is not just commerce. It’s culture. It’s care. It’s connection.
Bringing Global Lessons Home to South Africa
This wasn’t a trip to copy and paste Western practices — it was about learning, growing, and staying rooted in our unique African context.
Here’s what we’re bringing home to Maluti Muti:
Expanding our product offerings — from sun-grown flower to curated edibles, topicals, and more.
Embracing transparency — with cannabinoid profiles, terpene information, and clear guidance for every product.
Elevating the customer journey — by implementing advanced Cannabis Club Software for member management, compliance, and enhanced service.
Celebrating local stories — from the farmers of Swazi Gold to the healers preserving ancient cannabis knowledge.
While California and Nevada shine with policy and polish, South Africa shines with soul — from Durban Poison to the people who grow it with care, heart, and ancestral wisdom.
A Personal Pilgrimage with a Global Message
This journey was born from grief, but it blossomed into something beautiful: a renewed understanding of why we do what we do.
At Maluti Muti, we are more committed than ever to uplifting our local community, honoring our cultural roots, and growing toward a future where South African cannabis takes its rightful place on the global stage.
Cannabis is universal — but how we honour it is what makes us unique.
From the misty valleys of the Maluti to the sun-drenched dispensaries of Napa and Reno, this sacred plant continues to guide us. And we’re listening.
Let’s grow — together.
Follow our journey as we bring new inspiration home. From the mountains of the Eastern Free State to the heart of the cannabis world — Maluti Muti is growing forward, proudly South African, and globally connected.
